Below
are some of the folks I have interviewed who have survived those first
crucial years selling their art and are willing to share their advice and secrets. There are
artists in all types of media plus accountants, an insurance agent, a
"small business" attorney,
bankers, and even a business coach. There are gallery owners, and folks
hoping to get into a gallery. There are people who started their
business with 100,000 dollars, and there are people who started their
business with 2 nickels in their pocket. But all the artists in these
interviews have 1 thing in common: They have learned the tricks on how
to survive as an artist.
I
have created short video clips from each interview. In the near future,
I will make available the entire interviews on dvd so that you can
sit down and listen to the full hour-long interviews as they originally
took place. There
are more interviews taking place each week and we are editing video full
time. By the end of the year, we will have over 60 interviews
completed.
Enjoy
your stay in "the room". Click on each person's picture to
bring up a page about them, and their interviews will pop up on the
screen. Click the interview you want to watch from the list and just hit
"play". Have fun, it's free, and it's expert advice from
people who have lived the story. - Marshall Kregel, webmaster, ArtBiz101.com

Valery Guignon
Clothing
Designer (Now

"My goal
has always been to combine art and practicality. Majoring in
Industrial Design at Pratt Institute taught me high ideals in
the union of art and function. Now I’m pleased to produce a
product that is a highly functional garment as well as an
original painting. These pieces can be hung on the wall as well
and used to enhance an outfit." Valery is a brilliant
artist who has diversified her portfolio in order to expand her
customer base. She has found that teaching new students
adds a brand new dimension to her studio. You'll enjoy hearing
her interviews.

Dan's business

conceive it, we can achieve it". Dan has his own
gallery and works with different artists. There have been many
pitfalls along the way: with his location, changing economy, and
in finding artists who can supply his gallery.

Steve
Kriechbaum Master Goldsmith / Musician (Now
On-Line! Click the pic!) Steve is an
award winning goldsmith with 30 years experience in designing
and hand making jewelry. He attended The University of Texas at
El Paso where he studied fine arts. The majority of Steve's
studio classes were in sculpture and this is reflected in his
pieces. Steve is a firm believer that business classes
should be included in the art curriculum in the
universities. Too many artists get skilled in their art,
but their knowledge is somewhat murky when it comes to marketing
and sales. Steve makes it a
point to talk business while he's teaching art techniques to his
students.
